uhmmm, even at several tabs and a couple windows, firefox shouldn't be taking up 70%+ of my CPU, right? do i just have a sucky CPU? a sucky version of firefox (2.0.0.6)?

If you're on Mac, switch to Camino. If not, don't know what to tell you -- Firefox has been pretty hoggy these days.

Yeah, I use Camino as my primary browser too. I don't think Clara's using OS X any more though.

You can limit Firefox's hogtastic ways by going to about:config and finding the key browser.cache.memory.capacity. The internet suggests setting it in the following way:

For RAM sizes between 512BM and 1GB, start with 15000. For RAM sizes between 128MB and 512M, try 5000.

Tweak from there.

I seem to accumulate runaway processes after visiting any site with Flash. I tried detectiving it to figure out what was going wrong, but the console is less than useful here.

This happens to me when I visit sites with Flash. Make sure you close all tabs with Flash (e.g. Youtube, sites with Flash ads) and clear them out of your Closed Tabs list, if you have one. I also quit and restart Firefox every week or two (using a session saver to preserve my tabs, of course), which helps alot.

Same problem with flash at YouTube happens at the office with XPSP2 and 2.0.0.7. But at home everything's OK with 10.5 and 2.0.0.7 - maybe, 2 Gb RAM helps? For those who offers Camino - where can I get all those plugins/addons/extensions I got pretty much used to?
